The Experiment

At the very quiet hour of two o'clock in the morning I was surfing the Internet, checking out blogs and came across a site that captured me: http://zenhabits.net.

I was surfing (not sleeping) at 2:00 am -- a HABIT I have fallen into and a habit that I know makes me less (energized, happy, healthy, productive, peaceful -- you get the idea). And the irony is that I was looking for ideas about changing some of my not-so-healthy habits.

Anyway, the zen habits blog inspired me to try an experiment. Changing One Habit a Month. Seems reasonable.

So here I go....

On the 20th of each month (the "day" of my birthday -- it will be a kind of monthly birthday gift to myself) I will start a New, Better Habit. I'll focus on that One, New, Better Habit everyday until the 20th of the following month. And I'll write about it here...using this blog as an accountability tool...a place to capture my thoughts, ideas and experiences with this Experiment.

Yesterday was the 20th -- my New, Better Habit for this month is to GET INTO BED BY 11:00 pm, every night. I believe that if I get to bed at a more reasonable hour each night that I will find more time in the day to do more of what I want to do -- and I will feel better. It's not complicated -- but it sure has been a challenge for me the last few years.

So how did I do on Day 1 of my new Habit? I didn't quite make it into bed by 11:00 pm last night -- it was closer to 11:20 pm by the time I actually hit the sheets -- but oh so much better than the previous night when I crawled into bed at 3:45 am (yikes)! And I slept for 7 straight hours.

Good luck to me!
